Information on Cerakote and Powder Coating options:
- Cerakote is a ceramic-based coating that can be applied to metals, plastics, polymers, and wood. It's often used in the gun industry. The unique formulation used for Cerakote® ceramic coating enhances a number of physical performance properties including abrasion/wear resistance, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, impact strength, and hardness. Cerakote is also used in the following industries: aerospace, automotive, defense, medical, oil and gas, and more. It is UV stable and formulated to withstand temperatures up to 1,800° Fahrenheit and thermal shock from those temperatures directly into water with no adverse effects. Cerakote is a permanent ceramic finish that can last for several years with proper care and maintenance. This product comes in a limited color pallet using matte and satin finishes.
- Powder coating is a polyester or epoxy powder, which can be applied to metal, wood, glass, stone, and a number of different composite materials. Powder coating is applied as dry powder through an electrostatic process, then cured with heat. It is well known for providing high-quality, sturdy, flexible finishes in terms of both functionality and overall look. Powder coating is rated for temperatures up to 200*-400* Fahrenheit. Some powder coating colors offer UV stability. Most powder coating applications last for 15-20 years. These coatings are highly resistant to weather, chemicals, and corrosion, and offer electrical insulation, and vibration and sound deadening benefits. This product comes in a WIDE range of colors such as metallics, gloss, matte, satin, glitters, illusions, and more! The color pallets for powder coating colors are endless!
Overall, Cerakote and Powder coat are both excellent finishes and useful to enhance the performance, durability and looks of your end-use parts. When compared to powder coat, Cerakote is thinner, has a chemical resistance, and is stable in UV light. However, powder coating has more customizable color options and is hardier when compared to cerakote.
